Jharkhand Doctors' Quiz came to a grand end with the Finale in Ranchi on 23rd November. The frenzied activity, fun & excitement of the past two months culminated with a glittering gala event at the Hotel Royal Retreat in Ranchi. Held on the lawns, the 6 finalists were put on the dais to give the audience an unhindered view of the proceedings. A giant screen displayed the interesting mix of questions put up by the Quizmaster Mr Charanpreet Singh. The Quizmaster stuck to the semi-final format, with an additional 'Who Am I?' round, where clues were provided to the teams, asking them to identify a person, the points gained going down with every extra clue provided.
The buzzer round was used as a tie-breaker to decide the 1st and 2nd runners up. Again, the young Doctors' team from Ranchi was way ahead of others, winning over the audience and the Quizmaster with their enthusiasm. The all women's team, again from Ranchi, grabbed the second prize and the third place went to the team from Dhanbad.
Well-known Neurologist from Ranchi, Dr. K.K. Singh, was the Chief Guest for the evening.
The Semi-final of the Jharkhand Doctors' Quiz 2014, held at Jamshedpur on 16th November, saw 13 teams participating - 4 teams from Jamshedpur and 3 each from Dhanbad, Ranchi and Bokaro respectively. Organised in two rounds, 7 teams were pitted against each other in the first round and 6 in the second.
The Quiz itself also saw a change in format, with teams now required to answer questions put to them by the quizmaster upfront - with 28 questions in Round One. If the team the question was directed to was unable to answer, it was passed around to the others, the correct answer winning 10 points. Round Two was the buzzer round, with the correct answer getting 10 points and the wrong answer losing 10! Questions that went unanswered by the teams were thrown open to the audience, with a special gift from Medica to the person getting it right.
The participants showed great enthusiasm in getting the right answer, as did the audience, with quite a few of them grabbing the 'special prize'. The first Semi-final round had a clear winner, with the young team from Ranchi showing remarkable presence of mind and moving way ahead of others. The second Round was more balanced and competitive, with the teams moving neck-to-neck and the buzzer rounds throwing up the final winners.
The stage is now set for an exciting finish at Ranchi on 23rd November, where two teams each from Ranchi and Bokaro, and one team each from Jamshedpur and Dhanbad will fight it out for the Champion's Trophy and the grand prizes.
The 4th and the last zonal round of the Jharkhand Doctor’s Quiz 2014 saw the largest participation with 14 teams fiercely battling it out to reach the Semis. Held at Hotel Hans Regency, the evening was that of fun and frolic complete with interesting Quiz questions from Mr. Charanpreet Singh followed by Winner announcement and cocktail dinner.
The third zonal round of the Medica Jharkhand Doctors’ Quiz was held on 19th October, 2014 at Hotel Royal Retreat, Ranchi. 6 teams comprising of doctors from the capital pitted against each other to get through to the Semi-finals. The fierce competition between the quizzers over intriguing questions from Quiz Master Mr. Charanpreet Singh, made Ranchi Zonals one of the most interesting zonal rounds of doctors’ Quiz 2014.
The second Zonal round of the Medica Jharkhand Doctors's Quiz was held successfully on 21st September at Dhanbad. 10 teams comprising local Doctors participated in an evening of competition and fun. Conducted with much gusto by Quizmaster Charanpreet Singh, his enthusiasm was matched in equal measure by the teams who came up with most of the answers and gave him a standing ovation at the end of the quiz to show their appreciation. The highest score was the same as achieved by the Doctors in Jamshedpur in the first zonal round.
The first zonal round of the Medica Jharkhand Doctors’ Quiz was held on 14th September, 2014 at the IMA Hall, Jamshedpur. The Quiz is a first of its kind competition organised in the region by Medica in collaboration with the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran. The participants were asked to register from 4 zones, with the remaining zonal rounds scheduled to be held in Dhanbad (21st September), Ranchi (19th October) and Gumla (2nd November). Semi finals will be held in Jamshedpur on 16th November and the Grand Finale in Ranchi on 23rd November. The Quiz is being conducted by well-known quizmaster from Kolkata, Mr Charanpreet Singh.
12 teams (with 4 doctors in each team) participated in the first round. The Doctors demonstrated a lot of enthusiasm and combative spirit as they jostled with questions ranging from movies, music, sports, health and more. The set of 30 questions included audio-visual rounds also. Our quizmaster was pleasantly surprised with the very high scores, the top two teams getting almost all their answers right!
Medica Ranchi, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, has started BLS (Basic Life support) training in schools across Ranchi. In these sessions we train the teaching and non teaching staff of schools how to handle medical emergencies. An emergency can happen anywhere, anytime. When it occurs the person closest to the site of the emergency is the only support till a medical team arrives.
Children are prone to accidents leading to cuts, bruises and fractures. In schools,the responsibility of handling such situations falls on the staff. Medica has undertaken the responsibility of training the staff in handling such emergencies and in Basic Life Support to enable them to provide the initial first aid and necessary support till more professional help arrives.
A free health check up camp was organised at Medica. Three Orthopaedicians a??ended to more than 300 patients in the day-long camp. Dr. Vikash Kapoor, renowned Orthopeadic surgeon and Director of Orthopaedic Sciences at Medica Kolkata was a visiting faculty. He educated the audience on looking for and understanding the basic signs of arthritis, joint pains etc. and gave tips on living a healthy life.

Medica Ranchi participated in the 11-day Mega trade fair, a first of its kind event organized for the people of the city. The event generated huge footfall and entertained more than 60,000 entries daily.
Medica put up 2 beautifully branded stalls. One was used as an Information Centre which provided all details about the new world class facility in town through displays and brochures. The second stall was one of the greatest attractions of the fair, where we provided First Aid for the needy and offered 'Free Health Check up' to the visitors.
The Hospital was conceived with the purpose of bringing superior yet affordable healthcare to a city that lacked a good, world class healthcare facility.
On 30th May 2014,Medica Ranchi was inaugurated with a 'Sarva Dharm Puja' where a Priest, a Pandit, a Maulvi and a Granthi came together to bless our hospital. This meeting of Religions was reflective of how we would treat everyone with equal respect and empathy at our new hospital. They asked the Almighty to guide us in our noble journey.
Our Chairman Dr.Alok Roy, along with Dr.Sanjay Kumar and Dr.Dipak Gupta motivated the staff to work with sincerity and passion, to make Medica a respected and trusted name in the healthcare scenario at Ranchi. Dr Roy pointed out that we are associated with something that will continue to serve people and society beyond our lifetime.
Medica Ranchi proudly announced the commencement of “Meet the Master”, a series of interactive lectures by renowned medical practitioners, followed by interactive sessions for an exchange of ideas that would lead to better growth of the discipline.
Dr. Kunal Sarkar, renowned Cardiac Surgeon, Sr. Vice Chairman & Head, Medica Institute of Cardiac Sciences at Medica Kolkata, and President–“Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons”, who has performed over 25,000 cardiac surgeries, was present at Medica Ranchi to launch the session of interactive lectures, we hope to bring more such lectures to the people of Ranchi in the future
