Arthritis stands for a group of more than 100 diseases. It is an inflammation of the joints, the places where your bones connect, such as your wrists, knees, hips, or fingers. Some Arthritis affect other connective tissues and organs sometimes including your skin. The most common among different types of Arthritis being osteoarthritis (a degenerative joint disease), which is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other forms of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. X-rays and blood tests can confirm arthritis and this condition can be managed through medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition and sometimes surgery. Various Surgical interventions are available for arthritis depending on the severity of the patient’s condition and doctor’s assessment. Highly specialized orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and physiotherapists use computer assisted orthopaedic surgery techniques for maximum long term effectiveness.
Joint Replacement Surgeries – Joint replacement surgery is done to remove damaged or diseased parts of a joint and replaces them with new, man-made parts. Thus to reduce pain and help you move and feel better, replacing a joint is the best option.
Total Knee Replacement Surgery – Total knee replacement or ‘Arthroplasty’ is relining of the joint (bone end surfaces) with artificial parts called Prostheses. The new High Flexion Knees permit near complete range of movement.
Total Hip Replacement Surgery/Hip Arthroplasty- The surgery helps to re-form the hip joint, replacing the arthritic hip joint, thus getting rid of the pain-causing damaged bearing surfaces. The metal ball and plastic socket for replacement of hip joint was introduced in 1960. There are two main types of Total Hip Replacements: a cemented prosthesis and an un-cemented prosthesis. Both are widely used today. The components used today are made of chrome, cobalt, titanium or ceramic materials, and come in various shapes and designs.
This surgery is used to manage and rehabilitate injuries related to sport, exercise, or recreational activity. Common sports injuries include Concussion, Muscle Cramps, ACL sprains, Ankle Sprain and Shin Splints. Arthroscopy helps to diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint safely and accurately. Knee and shoulder arthroscopy is known for treating problems such as Meniscal (cartilage) tears, chondromalacia (wearing or injury of cartilage cushion), ACL tears in the knee and Rotator cuff tendon tears, recurrent dislocations, etc of the shoulder. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most commonly injured ligaments of the knee and Arthoscopic ACL reconstruction with the latest grafts and implants results in highest long term success rates.
Physical therapy helps to rehabilitate patients with orthopaedic conditions. Physiotherapists create customized care plans for each patient to get rid of pain and improve flexibility and strength as safely and quickly as possible.
