World Anesthesia Day commemorates the first successful demonstration of ether Anesthesia on October 16, 1846. This ranks as one of the most significant events in the history of Medicine and took place at the Massachusetts General Hospital, home of the Harvard School of Medicine. The discovery made it possible for patients to obtain the benefits of surgical treatment without the pain associated with an operation. The date (16 October) is now globally recognised as World Anaesthesia Day in respect of the importance of this event.
On this occasion, a CME was organized by Team Anaesthesia wherein the following topics were discussed:
Dr. Vijay Kumar Mishra, head-Critical Care, spoke about the importance of this day and shared a story on Biggles from the book “Today's Anaesthetist” by Grant Hutchison.
Presentation on History of Anaesthesia by Dr. Asif Nadeem Khan, Consultant, Anesthesia.
Presentation on Future Trends in Anaesthesia by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Head – General Anesthesiology & in-charge of OT & CSSD.
This was followed by a quiz where everyone participated with great enthusiasm and won several prizes.
